CHARLESTON, S.C. July 14, 2016 – Whereable Technologies LLC, a personal safety device company, announced that Bud Mayo, an entertainment industry entrepreneur and executive, has joined its Board of Managers.
Mayo founded Digital Cinema Destinations Corp., also known as Digiplex Destinations, which operates 20 interactive entertainment centers and nearly 200 movie screens across the nation. Carmike Cinemas purchased the company in 2014. He was also founder, chairman, president and CEO of Cinedigm, a pioneer in the digital cinema industry, from 2000 to 2010. Under his leadership, Cinedigm led the industry shift from film to digital.
At Whereable Technologies, Mayo’s knowledge and expertise will provide the company with strategic and financial guidance as it brings its first product to market – RiskBand, the world’s first wearable personal security device not tied to a phone or transmitting station and supported by a preeminent global Emergency Response Team. The device is planned for launch in the fall of 2016.
“Bud brings both an entrepreneurial spirit and extensive business experience to our company, and we are honored that someone of his stature and vision has come on board,” said Whereable President and CEO Jim Van Law. “He has been at the forefront of technological change in his industry, and he will provide a guiding hand here at Whereable as we seek to transform the world of personal security.”
Mayo, a New Jersey resident, has been involved in technology related businesses since beginning his business career in sales at IBM. He has earned numerous achievements and accolades, including his 2010 induction into the film exhibition Hall of Fame, a 2009 Telly Award and Ernst & Young’s Regional Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Technology and Innovation in 2006.
